General Santos City (RGP/PIO Sarangani/PIA SarGen) -- "This celebration showcases our public-private partnership (towards progress)", Governor Migs Dominguez said yesterday in a press conference sponsored by Globe Telecom.
Sarangani celebrates its 6th USWAG (United Towards Strong, Wealthy, and Globally Competitive) Sarangani during the week (July 27-August 1) with product exhibits at the Gaisano Mall.
USWAG is Sarangani's local version of the national Small and Medium Enterprises Development (SMED) week-long celebration.
In Sarangani, Globe has been assisting four of the province's micro-enterprises that have shown remarkable growth in the last few months.
"We have big plans in SOCSKSARGEN (South Cotabato, Sarangani, General Santos City , Sultan Kudarat)," Globe regional area head Norma Zamora- Ribo said. "We are right now preparing for another roll-out with our broadband facilities."
At the press conference, Ribo introduced WiMAX, Globe's latest broadband technology in 4G signal and the first in the country.
Ribo said Globe plans to build 100 additional sites in Mindanao, 50 of these will be built in the region.
"We are here to make business and to help," Ribo added.
"Development should start in the community like Ihan," said Jeffrey Tarayao, corporate social responsibility head. Sitio Ihan Lumad Association (SILA) in Ihan is one of the four communities assisted by Globe who now produces handcrafted basketry, plates, mats, and picture frames from bamboo, abaca, nito and rattan.
PLANS for more realty investments in Cebu are underway for a General Santos City-based corporation, as they penetrate the Visayan market.
“Aside from our current commercial buildings here in Cebu, we plan to develop housing because the housing sector in the province is quite bullish,” said Rodrigo Rivera Sr., chairman and chief executive officer of the RD Group of Companies.
Currently, the company has commercial buildings for lease in the province, including their main building in Banilad.
All its subsidiaries hold office there, except for banking, which has moved to the new Penbank branch on A.S. Fortuna.
“The regional headquarters for Penbank is strategically placed in our new branch to cater directly to our customers,” said Robert Cantoy, president of Penbank. Penbank A.S. Fortuna is the sixth branch in Cebu, with two others in Iloilo City composing the Visayas group.
RD has subsidiary companies in Cebu that are in real estate, pawnshops and banking, as well as outlets for their seafood products from General Santos.
These companies include RD Realty and Development Corp., RD Pawnshop, Penbank and RD Food Processing and Export Corp. (RDEX).
RDEX processes and trades export-grade shrimps, silver mackerel, skipjack, cobia and yellowfin tuna for export markets, but they also sell their products like canned products Dolly and Diana tuna to local markets through their stores in Cebu and Mindanao.
MANILA, Philippines – Even if Antonio Margarito’s trainer admitted that Manny Pacquiao will be a difficult fighter to topple, he said that his ward may outlast the 7-division world champion in their November 13 clash.

“I believe that the fight will be at a catch-weight of 150 pounds, and 150 is no problem for Antonio. The last time he came in to camp, he was 12 pounds over where he had to fight, which was 154. Two weeks before the fight, he was already on weight,” Garcia noted.
De Lima to Maguindanao massacre victims' kins: Justice will be served under P-Noy gov't
TACURONG CITY, July 25 (PNA) - Justice Secretary Leila de Lima has assured relatives of victims of the Maguindanao massacre that justice will be served under the Aquino government.
Speaking before relatives of the Nov. 23 Maguindanao massacre here on Saturday, de Lima reiterated President Aquino's marching orders that justice should be served in the worst politically motivated violence in the country.
Relatives, loved ones and supporters of the slain journalists and wife and relatives of Maguindanao Gov. Esmael "Toto" Mangudadatu gathered here to commemorate the eight month anniversary of the Maguindanao carnage.
De Lima also met with Mangudadatu whose wife, sisters and other relatives were among the 57 people killed in an isolated countryside in Ampatuan town, some 40 kilometers from here.
De Lima assured Mangudadatu that justice will be served.
Mangudadatu declined to visit the massacre site, claiming he could not bear the pain of seeing the place where his wife, along with other innocent people, were buried alive.
Speaking to massacre victims' relatives, De Lima said her office is strengthening the witness protection program and "any other" assistance it can give to the still grieving relatives.
She rallied the relatives to continue the battle cry "Never Again."
XB GenSAN takes home 'Showtime' P1-million grand prize

Making a big comeback to ultimately win the P1-million grand prize in the first-ever “Showtime” grand finals is the dance group, XB GenSAN.
Already ousted a few weeks ago, the dance group got back in the game as a “wild card” pick by show hosts Vhong Navarro, Anne Curtis, Kim Atienza, and resident judge Vice Ganda.
XB GenSAN [Extreme Boyz Gensan of General Santos City] proved they were worthy of the chance, imparting a heartfelt performance that was ultimately well-received by the huge crowd that swarmed the Ynares Gym in Antipolo City.
Impressed as well were the show’s judges — which include roughly 40 other celebrities, Alex De Rossi, Priscilla Meirelles, Dennis Padilla, Jett Pangan, Robert Sena, Jhong Hilario, and Jon Avila — that gave the group a huge 9.875 as final score.
The members of the group were in tears after receiving kudos for their performance from Vice Ganda.
“Ipinakita ninyo na hindi sapat na dahilan ang failure ninyo yesterday to try and do better today,” Vice Ganda said.
The show started with a number of rousing performances from the hosts: Vhong Navarro danced; Jugs Jugueta and Teddy Corpuz sang "Liwanag sa Dilim;” Anne Curtis sang "On The Wings Of Love" while attached to a harness; Kim Atienza did "Kiss" and Vice Ganda made a Madonna-like rendition of "Vogue."
Giving XB GenSAN a good fight were Mortal Combat; the Show Gays of Quezon City, who flaunted once again daring acrobatics as highlight to their performance; Kasibulan with their imaginative use of “hand miming;” and the Boys Unlimited Dancers, with their tight choreography.
